The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. Stephenie Meyer. Shining Desk
Two months ago I read The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner written by Stephenie Meyer. It tells the story of, obviously, Bree Tanner, a newborn vampire who also appears, shortly, in the novel Eclipse, the third book of the Twilight Saga.

Synopsis:

Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood... life before she became a vampire.

All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don't draw attention to yourself and, above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn't know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.

Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?

The author said she wrote this book just for herself, not because she thought of publishing it. She also said it would explain things about newborn vampires. I agree with her in these two points. I think she enjoyed writing this story because she likes her characters though this book may not create you an addiction as it may Twilight. You will know how the newborns lived in a basement all together, what rules they had and what dangers they faced. The end, if you have read Eclipse, you already know, but you don't know what Bree was thinking in that moment and you will want her outcome to be different.

I didn't like much this novel. I guess I expected more action and more love story, just like the previous Stephenie Meyer's books. On the other hand, it is well written and you will like the Bree Tanner character.
